Best . . . Day Show . . . Ever!

I found this on the Thursday.net message board. I like-a-da Thursday, Straylight Run, Minus the Bear, and Say Anything. Ted Leo and Nightmere Of You aren't too bad either. Me thinks I know where I will be Saturday afternoon.

AP is incredibly proud to announce the details of our annual South By Southwest party. The three-stage event will take place from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 18 at Emo's in Austin, Texas, and is 100% free to the public.

Playing the all-day event are Thursday, Straylight Run, Poison The Well, Ted Leo/Pharmacists, Circa Survive, Head Automatica, Minus The Bear, Paramore, Test Icicles, the Chariot, Say Anything (acoustic), the Bronx, the Fall Of Troy, Vedera, Criteria, Nightmare Of You, Russian Circles and New Atlantic.

Once again, the three-stage show is free to all, and begins promptly at noon. We hope to see you all there!

Sold Out

Wristbands are all gone. If you didn't get one, I'm sorry. Hopefully, more will go on sale in a couple weeks for the full price of $175 (ouch). Also, don't forget the hundreds that will be offered on eBay and craigslist for a premium. You should expect to pay at least $250 if you buy them from someone on-line (double ouch). With wristbands in such high demand, I don't even want to know what the lines at the venues are gonna be like this year.

We're all in

I got wristbands for MS and I last night. Carter was right behind me in line. Gus got his this afternoon (apparently he had to wait in line over an hour). Since Kent will be out of town and Xuan is going the inexpensive day show only route, we're all covered!

Also, in one of the comments below, you might have noticed that a writer for Austinist wrote in to tell us that the Rainer Maria / Ark day show is actually at Red 7. AustinShowList.com still has the show at Side Bar, but it is Austinist's party. You can believe whoever you want. Personally, I'm disappointed. Side Bar is a personal favorite of mine.

Torrent

I downloaded the official SXSW bitorrent of all the mp3s from the website. It's a bigun at 2.5 GB. I'll be happy to burn it to DVD for anyone (that I know) who doesn't have the patience to pull it down themselves. Last year, they used that neato iPod app to link to these songs via the schedule so it is worth having. If you want to downloaded it yourself, then SXSW Baby has more details here.

Woot. First post. Ever.

Wristbanded!

Find that old Blur album . . . track two . . . play . . . "WOOHOO!"

Right before putting the beautiful pork tenderloin that my girlfriend prepared the night before onto the grill, I got the message. Six hundred wristbands were on sale at Waterloo Records tonight, and only to those who were on the SXSW SMS mailing list. The pork will have to wait. With the approval of my roommate (also the most beautiful woman I know) I was off. By the time I got downtown, the line had already reached past the entrance to Waterloo Icehouse (no relation). Luckily, there was a limit of two wristbands per person, so there was no problem. By the time I got back home, with my newly acquired wrist accessories in hand, I received another message saying that the 600 available wristbands were sold out. The rest go on sale at 10am tomorrow. Good luck to the rest of you. The party won't be as fun without ya'.

Wristbands Redux

Someone informed me that my information about wristbands is incorrect. Apparently, the date that wristbands go on sale will be announced in the February 24th issue of the Austin Chronicle. You can also get wristband information through SMS. Instructions on how to sign up for SXSW news through SMS can be found at 2006.sxsw.com.

Initial Showcase Schedule Released

Check it out on 2006.sxsw.com. There are a few items of iterest:
  • Snow Patrol is playing Saturday night at Stubb's
  • Nada Surf (not previously on the band list) is playing Thursday night at The Parish
  • The band Thursday is not listed, but
    • They're current tour is sponsored by "Shirts For a Cure"
    • there's a "Shirts For a Cure" day party on Friday at Emo's
    • They will be play a show in Texas on the 16th but have no other shows scheduled until the next Monday
  • Aquaduct will be playing again this year, this time at The Parish II (I have no clue where that is. Is this Jazz? Maybe the Parish's coat room? Clueless.)

Day Shows Galore

Looks like showlistaustin.com has the hook-up on day shows. I'll look through those and add ones to the calendar that look interesting. I see that The Ark and Rainer Maria are playing at the Sidebar on Wednesday. (How f'n cool is that!) It looks like I may have found the Thursday show (although they still aren't listed).

Check out the calendar

I added a calendar to the site last night (link on the right). I plan on listing all the day shows I hear about in the calendar along with any other important, non-showcase events. I've found that donewaiting.com's blog lists many of the day shows, so I'll be pulling a lot of info from there. If there's anything you want added to the calendar just leave it in the comments below and I'll try to add it when I get a chance.

Snow Patrol and Thursday?

I noticed on Interscope's website that they are giving away trips to SXSW this year. Within the announcement, Interscope claims that both Snow Patrol and Thursday will be playing at the festival. Neither are listed on the official SXSW site. I heard a rumor a while back that Thursday would be playing a day show, and they are touring through Texas that weekend. However, this is the first I've heard of Snow Patrol being at SXSW. Looks like I need to do some day show research!

SXSW Wristbands

According to sxswbaby.com, wristbands go on sale February 24th at Waterloo for $130. After the first 2000 are sold, another 2000 will be sold at $150. More wristbands may be sold after March 9th (but I wouldn't count on it).
