Night #1

Last year, my SXSW cherry was popped by Nazlopi, who turned out to be an unbelievable surprise. Today, I watched Editors play a set at the ACL studios as my first SXSW experience of '06. Last year was one of the best experiences of my life, this year has the chance to top it.

Editors have an album coming out in the US on 3.21 and I suggest everyone picks it up. If you don't, you're pee-pee might fall off. I swear. I read it on the Internet.

And now, the top 5 things I heard at SXSW tonight:

5. "Who are you here with?"

Heard from the least attractive girl I saw all night. I responded "nobody", smiled, then walked off . . . out the front door and to another bar.

4. "Is that Wayne?"

So, this is actually something that Gus heard all night, not me. Apparently, the "special guest" that may have been a front man of a lip that is flaming couldn't stay away from the crowd.

3. "Look at me, I'm Neko Case."

Oh Neko. Why must you flash your blue blouse at everyone around me while you are standing just three feet away? Who do you think you are fooling?

2. "Can we play one more? He said we can play one more! That guy, right here said we could keep playing!"

Rainer Maria was trying to beat the rain. These words came from the guitarist's mouth. Please note, this is more of a paraphrase than verbatim; unlike the Neko Case quote, which is totally what she (might have) said!

1. "Can I have a little more . . . " (while pointing towards self and then up in the air)

Some things never die (like vocals that happen to be missing from the monitor).
